Salmonellae are ubiquitous human and animal pathogens. Salmonellosis is a disease that is common throughout the world. In humans  it usually takes the form of a self-limiting food poisoning (gastroenteritis), but occasionally manifests as a serious systemic infection (enteric fever) which requires prompt antibiotic treatment. This test looks for salmonella bacteria in your stool. Having these bacteria in your stool means you have a salmonella infection. You can get salmonella if you eat food contaminated by animal feces. Also, one can contaminate food during processing; when raw meat comes in contact with other foods. Ensure that you prepare food until cooked to avoid getting this bacteria.
